Hobbies & Interests: Home improvement, spending time with the family

Experience: I began my Y career as a Personal Trainer at the Green YMCA in 2005.  In 2006 I became the Fitness & Sports Director at the Firestone Park YMCA.  In 2007, I joined the Canal Square team and became the Director of the CitiCenter Athletic Club.  My latest duties (2010) include serving as the Interim Associate Executive Director for the Canal Square YMCA.

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y: Making new friends and learning new ideas.

Qualifications: YMCA Senior Director certification, B.S. in Physical Education from University of Akron

Hobbies & Interests:  Dogs, Leadership Books, Soccer

Special Talents:  I can solve a Rubik's Cube in under 2 minutes.

Experience:  I started out at the Firestone Park YMCA as a site administrator for the before and after school program.  I also served as the day camp coordinator.  In 2007 I came to Canal Square and assumed my current role.

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y: I enjoy working at the school sites and watching the kids learn and grow.  I also love Summer Day Camp!

Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, Minored in Child Development.  Multiple ODJFS required trainings, numerous YMCA of the USA trainings

Hobbies & Interests:  Reading, Shopping, Family Time

Experience: I started my Y career as a member service representative in 2004 at the Parkview Family YMCA in Fort Wayne, IN.  In 2006 I moved into the Member Service Coordinator role.  I was hired in September 2010 to relocate to Akron and be the University Park YMCA Membership Director.

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y: Meeting new people and being able to make a difference in our member's lives.

Qualifications: CPR, AED, First Aid, Creating the Member Experience, Volunteerism, and Group Work

Hobbies & Interests:  Cooking, Spending Time with Family, and Being Outdoors

Favorite Books or Movies:  Twilight Series (books) & Horror (movies)

Experience: I've worked here at the YMCA going on 13 years when I saw an ad in the paper.  I never knewanything or heard about the Y.  I took the job because I like to be around and listen to people and learn more about the Y.  I did and I love it. 

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y: Meeting and talking to the people giving info about the programs we have, seeing all the little faces going in and out of child watch and day camp, and watchin children swim for the first time is what I enjoy about working at the Y.

Qualifications: Good communication skills, special event planner, trustworthiness, good public relations, teacher of good customer service

Hobbies & Interests:  Card making, Jewelry making

Favorite Movie:  Scent of a Woman

Special Talents: Dancing, Skating, Sewing

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y:  I enjoy meeting all different types of people from all different walks of life.

Experience: YMCA Water Fitness, Arthritis Foundation Aquatics and P.A.C.E., former step aerobics, group fitness.  The YWCA and the YMCA literally brought me back to life after my husband's stroke.  Membership turned into a job!

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y: The opportunity to grow and stretch my abilities.  To impact the lives of others in a positive manner encouraging them to reach high to achieve personal goals.

Mary Azar

Experience: 1986-1996 Volunteer in fitness/childwatch  1996-present I have worked in the childwatch room.  I have been the supervisor since 2000.  I also worked part time in the cleaning department.  Myself and my family have grown up here at the YMCA.  I have worked at Cuyahoga Falls YMCA teaching classes.

What you enjoy the most about working at the Y: The members are great!  I love seeing a family have a child and watch them grow and go to school.  I have seen many families grow up in my 20 years of being here!  I also love to teach classes (exercises).

Qualifications: First Aid, CPR, Child Abuse, Bloodborn Pathogens, group exercise training certification, supervisory training, active participation in the "Parent Project", training in Managing Behavior of maltreated preschool children, child abuse & neglect, child protection, working with agressive children, Certifications in Silver Sneakers, Zumba & more.  I have been a foster parent for 7 years; and I have 6 children, 3 of which are adopted.

Hobbies & Interests:  Weight Lifting, Swimming, Crafts, Cooking, Grilling

Favorite Movie:  The Jungle Book

Special Talents: I am great with children.  I love them & they love me.  (They are gifts from God!)
